FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals is one such place, exuding true Southern soul. This special vibe inspired Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Otis Redding. The Southern Soul EZX, guided by Swamper guitarist Jimmy Johnson, recreates the soulful sound with period - correct gear and mic placement. It offers crisp, dense, and saturated drums in the unique FAME room ambience. There are five complete kits (Ludwig, Gretsch, Pearl, Sakae) and two setups (from the '60s/'70s). One setup uses all - mono miking, and the other is a full stereo setup. It also features leakage mics for vocals, guitar, piano, and upright bass in their original spots, adding a real band presence. This collection, from a small town with a huge music impact, brings you drums with true Southern soul. It's produced by Glenn Rosenstein (worked with James Taylor, U2, Ziggy Marley) and engineered by Jeff Balding (Faith Hill, Brad Paisley, Celine Dion). Chad Cromwell (Neil Young, Joe Walsh) handled the sampling and provided example MIDI.
Using this Southern Soul EZX is easy. First, choose one of the five complete kits according to your preference, like Ludwig or Gretsch. Then, pick either the '60s/ '70s setup, whether you want the all - mono miking for a classic feel or the full stereo setup for a broader sound. The leakage mics for vocals, guitar, piano, and upright bass are already in their original spots, so you can directly use them to add that real band presence.
