Product Detail

The OPL is a digital sound synthesis chip developed by Yamaha in the mid - 1980s. It was used in PC sound cards like the Ad Lib card and early Sound Blaster series. This instrument emulates the OPL sound chip, offering all OPL2 features and some of OPL3. The emulator has channels with 2 oscillators each, combined via phase modulation. Each oscillator can generate one of eight waveforms, giving it a unique sound. Each plugin instance emulates a whole OPL chip, working mainly with carrier and modulator operators. SBI files, an old instrument format by Creative Labs for the Sound Blaster, can be used as presets by simply dragging and dropping into the plugin window. Percussion mode is also supported, though not well - documented, with specific waveform recommendations for each percussion type.

To use this DiscoDSP OPL, start by launching the plugin. If you have SBI files, just drag and drop them into the plugin window to use them as presets. When working with the oscillators, you can choose from eight different waveforms to get the sound you like. For percussion mode, if you want a bass drum sound, both operators are used, and it doubles the output amplitude. For snare, use the carrier settings and consider an abs - sine waveform. For tom, go with the modulator settings and a sine waveform. Cymbal and hi - hat work better with carrier and modulator settings respectively, and a half - sine waveform. As for maintenance, keep your software up - to - date to ensure smooth operation. Also, make sure your system meets the requirements for running the plugin. Be aware that the percussion mode isn't well - documented, so you might need to do some experimentation to get the best results.
