Product Detail
The Radial Engineering J48 Active Direct Box offers ultra-low distortion of all kinds, exceptional headroom, and a wide dynamic range. It keeps your instrument's natural sound intact, powered by 48V phantom power. Designed to deliver the most authentic tone, it doesn't alter your valuable instrument's sound but transfers its true character to the mixing console without distortion or artifacts. This design has won the hearts of many demanding musicians worldwide. Using only 48V phantom power, the J48 is an active direct box with an extremely linear response from 20Hz to well over 40kHz. Its unique digital switching power supply achieves low distortion, increasing the internal operating rail voltage for more headroom and better signal handling. The J48 offers an ideal even-order harmonic cascade and sonic performance that beats DIs costing hundreds more. Like all Radial products, the J48 is feature-rich for the studio and tough for the road. It has a -15dB input pad for loud signals, 180º polarity reverse for feedback control on stage, and a ground lift to reduce hum and buzz. A merge function mixes left - right signals to mono without phase cancellation. An 80Hz high - pass filter minimizes resonant feedback with acoustic instruments and increases headroom by removing unneeded bass frequencies. Radial's innovative book - end design protects switches and connectors, and the internal I - beam construction reduces stress on the PC board, ensuring trouble - free performance for years. A full - bottom no - slip pad provides isolation and stability. Used by artists like Tommy Emmanuel, Joe Chiccarelli, and Fleetwood Mac, the Radial J48 is the world's top 48V phantom powered active direct box.
Using the Radial J48 is easy. First, connect your instrument to the input of the J48. Then, plug it into your mixing console using a balanced cable. Make sure your console provides 48V phantom power. If your instrument produces very loud signals, you can use the -15dB input pad. On stage, use the 180º polarity reverse to control feedback. If you notice hum or buzz, try using the ground lift. When using it with acoustic instruments, engage the 80Hz high - pass filter to reduce resonant feedback and increase headroom. For the merge function, if you want to combine left - right signals to mono, just activate it. As for maintenance, keep the J48 clean and dry. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts. If it's not in use for a long time, store it in a cool, dry place. The innovative design protects it well, but handle it with care to ensure it serves you for years.
